Why does immigration continue to be such a source of conflict in the US? What similarities can you identify between tensions today and those that existed in the late 19th century?
Mulberry Bend, New York. I chose this photo because it looks like it sums up immigration as a whole. From taking a glance at the photograph one can see the people roaming the streets working very hard and they look very focused on getting their task complete. One can see the cleanliness of the street to be below average. It seems as if there is no organization in the streets and that it is every man for himself out there just like immigration was during that era.
Immigration continues to be such a source of conflict in the US because it literally happens everyday. If one takes a close look into society as a whole today, unless one is native american, everyone is an immigrant. Immigration does not only bring negatives to society as it is mapped out to do. But it brings fourth positive affect as well as it did in the 19th century. They brought other traditions, religions, and other techniques that were acquired by the United States and made them a better country as a whole.
Immigration is a problem today because of the conflicts between native born residents and foreign residents. Often foreign residents are seen as taking away things from the people who are said to deserve them. These things include jobs, opportunities, residences, etc. Immigrants are seen as not having the privilege of being on the same level as natives.
Similar to modern times, immigrants in the 19th century came to America and tensions resulted. At that time most of the tensions resulted from cheap labor that foreigners provided. Employers were more likely to hire the immigrants to whom they could give longer hours and less pay than Americans.
Immigration is such a continuous source of conflict today because it is constantly happening. The entirety of society today, aside from native americans, is made of of immigrants. Although people assume the issue of immigration is a negative issue, there are many positives. The main positive is that immigrants bring a source of economy boosting work
Immigration is a continuing source of conflict for mainly economic reasons. Illegal immigrants are coming into American and working for less that legal citizens will work for. Many citizens are also against letting illegal immigrants stay in America because of the drain they put on government funding in terms of healthcare and the fact that they do not pay taxes. Immigrants have usually come in and done jobs for lower wages in American history. Be it the Irish or the Chinese, immigrants have seen that working for less gets you the job and the people who lose their jobs are never happy about it.
Immigration can bring both positives and negatives to the country. Illegal immigrants that occupy the land take away opportunities from deserving american citizens such as jobs. The over occupation of immigrants makes finding jobs a difficult and competitive task. However it can also be the source of new ideas and practices that can be beneficial to country in terms of jobs, religion or cultures.
Immigration still proves to be a source conflict in the US mainly because of the enormous number of immigrants and the fact that they are there are also illegal immigrants in America that have overpopulated. Illegal immigrants pour in from other countries and it just adds more problems such as job competition.
There are still tensions for jobs I'm sure just like there were back in the 19th century involving immigrants and the Americans. Also there were undoubtedly illegal immigrants in the 19th century which further added tension just like today.
Immigration continues to be such a source of conflict in the US because things like illegal immigrants. Its completely unfair for someone to enter our country without being certified as a legal immigrant. One of the problems is with Mexico. Illegal immigrants enter our country all the time without a green card and they manage to find jobs and homes. Tensions today and those that existed in the last 19th century are similar because many people did not like immigrants. Immigration caused a lot of violence within the ethnical groups and also the natives vs. these new immigrants. Also illegal immigrants take away job opportunities from the native people of the US.
Immigration continues to be a source of conflict in the United States because it still takes play in everyday life. There are immigrants coming to this country everyday whether it is a boat, a plane, etc. There are both positive and negative affects to the country. The positive affects are that it adds to the cultural, more people in the society, and makes racism less of a problem. The negative affects are to many people, not everyone can support themselves due to a lack of jobs, and anger within the country. Original American citizens are frustrated with immigrants because they take "money" and work from them. America is made of immigrants which brought us to what the country is today. In the late 19th century it was a positive impact. Immigrants contribute billions of money to the economy.
immigration continues to be a problem in america because they are first illegal, over populate the country and try to have a better life, some got jobs and wasent fair for the legal citizens who couldn't get a job.
tensions today and back then are similar because people didn't like immigrants back then, and still dont today. it caused violence and anger, wasent fair for legal citizens because they were illegal and some were able to have jobs and make money, and live in homes.
Immigration in the late 19th century closely resembles immigration issues of the United States today. Our government is still trying to solve the same issues the late 19th century America experienced with immigration.
Immigration in the United States today continues to be a conflict because our country is becoming over populated. All problems with immigration stem from over population. Because of the dramatic increase of people our resources will be depleted faster. One resource besides the obvious food and water is jobs. Natural born citizens of the United states become threatened by the immigrants willing to work less and the vast quantity of them. This competition between these two groups contributes to another problem for the government to deal with.. prejudice.
